90 Points.
An outstanding blend is the 2005 Alta Mesa Proprietary Red (50% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, and 20% Syrah). A glorified Cotes du Rhone look-alike, it offers plenty of pepper, berry, tobacco leaf, licorice, and spice characteristics as well as loads of plum, cherry, and fig-like fruit. With terrific freshness, vibrancy, and an attractive mouthfeel, it can be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years.

Dense and ripe, with plum, mineral and spice notes. Pleasant savory, earthy flavors give this some charm, but beware the dense, drying tannins. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. Drink now through 2012. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 112 cases made.
