George Wine Company continues to grow slowly with the addition of two new vineyards, complementing the three vineyards produced last year. Fred Hansen's family purchased their property in 1970. They established a dairy farm and trucking operation, as well as Hansen Vineyards. King Family Vineyard was purchased by Ben & Carla King from Huntsville, Alabama in 2000 in anticipation of Ben's retirement as a surgeon. Also, a sixth wine was created as a blend of all five single vineyards.
The Martinelli family has renamed the vineyard formerly called the Nupital Vineyard to the Ceremonial Vineyard. This name change reflects the multitude of events held at this venue. Leras Family Vineyard and Martaella Vineyard continue to be excellent sources for Russian River Pinot Noir.
Also offered is a blend of all five of the single vineyard wines called Sonoma Coma. The term Sonoma Coma was coined by Aziz, the original General Manage of Dry Creek Kitchen in Healdsburg, who has worked with restaurateur Charlie Palmer the past twenty years. The term reflects the laid back lifestyle of Sonoma County relative to that of Las Vegas and New York where Aziz had previously resided.
